TITLE:

Johnny Can Read:  Effective Instructional Practices in Reading

DESCRIPTION:

Any reading program can be “powered up” when delivered with effective instructional techniques.  Participants will review the “Big Five” strands of reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and text comprehension.   They will learn and practice explicit teaching techniques, practices and activities that can be used in conjunction with any commercial program to increase student learning.

8:30 a.m.-Noon and 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. daily

ENROLLMENT:

Limit of 30

CREDIT:

15 OPI renewal units OR 1 graduate credit through Montana State University-Northern. MSU-N will charge $130.00 for this credit which is paid at the workshop.

EXPENSES:

Participants will be responsible for travel, lodging, and meals.

FEE POLICY:

$40.00 per participant if GTCC member  / $100.00 per participant if not a GTCC member 

Please submit registration fees by June 1, 2009.  If we have not received your payment by June 1st, and the workshop is full, you will be bumped should we receive registration with payment from another registrant.  If you are bumped from a workshop you will be notified.  After June 1st registration fees must be sent at the time of registration.  NO refunds after June 1, 2009.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:

Participants need to bring their core reading curriculum teacher’s guide if available.
