 Our Community

The modern day communities of the headwaters of the Marias River are Cut Bank, Valier, Browning, and Heart Butte.

These rural communities are bounded by the Blackfeet Reservation, Canada, Glacier National Park and the Golden Triangle agricultural area of Central Montana.

These communities are oil, agricultural and tourism based economies that survive on less than 14 inches of annual precipitation - in a good year.

Though the area is boundaried by the East Front of the Rocky Mountains, old timers say of the vast open plains, that there was nothing to stop the wind except barbed-wire. You can hear it blowing in the video.

Cultural make-up of the area includes a mixture of American Indians, Scandinavians, Central Europeans, Hutterites, and others.

This area entices outdoor enthusiasts and hunters, being abundant in big game animals including elk, mule and white tail deer, black and grizzly bears and moose to name a few.

Field hunters will find pheasant, grouse, quail, ducks and geese through out the area.

The rivers, lakes, and streams of this area abound with trout, walleye, northern pike and other species that delight anglers.
