GTCC Summer Institute 2018
Workshop 1816
TITLE:
Beyond the 6 Traits: Bringing Writing Assessment to the Next Level
DESCRIPTION:
This workshop will review the 6+1 Traits of Writing and discuss how the language of the traits is embedded in the Common Core writing and the ACT writing assessments. The workshop will provide opportunities for teachers to write trait-based prompts suitable for district-wide writing assessments. The workshop will also demonstrate ways to run a district-wide writing assessment tied to rubrics with clear and concise descriptions of student outcomes. Each rubric will also be tied to the kind of writing used on the Common Core written response sections (argumentative, explanatory, narrative) and leveled according to student abilities: novice, nearing proficiency, proficient, and advanced. Student samples will be provided and scored. Each participant will receive a copy of a revised 6+1 Traits binder with emphasis added to writing assessments for grade, school, and district use. A discussion of trends in writing assessment will also take place.
