“Children are apt to live up to what you believe of them.” - Lady Bird Johnson

The holidays are upon us and with that, comes excitement and anticipation. The holidays for many, though, bring much more than that.

From, thetraumainformedteacher.com article, “The Holidays, School, and Trauma”::

“Sometimes holiday breaks from school are filled with tension, stress, and unpredictability. The structure and safety of school are gone. Sometimes there’s sadness that loved ones aren’t around to celebrate – possibly due to incarceration, divorce, abandonment, health issues, or death.”

“It would be almost impossible to try to describe every possible scenario that your students might encounter over the holidays, but it IS possible for us, as teachers, to be aware that these kinds of things happen, even if they aren’t talked about.”

Be cognizant of our students’ and their families needs during the holidays and be aware of what they may be facing.

From the Golden Triangle Curriculum Cooperative to you and your families - wishing you a relaxing, plentiful, and memorable holiday season.

Book Recommendation: “Educated: A Memoir” by Tara Westover

“Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University. Only then would she wonder if she’d traveled too far, if there was still a way home...”
