Disruptive Behaviors

I hear from teachers and administrators all too often about disruptive behaviors that are, “interfer[ing] with or disrupt[ing] the process of teaching and learning” in the classroom (Luna, 2019).

Students’ and teachers’ patience is tested on a daily basis with a myriad of behaviors; seemingly with no end in sight. Behavioral expectations were taught and the foundation was formed at the beginning of the school year. Now what?

Luna (2019) states, “the golden rule of dealing with disruptive behavior is never to do anything that will make the situation worse” and offers some pointers for students’ struggling with disruption of the classroom.

Whenever you are experiencing students’ disruptive behaviors, be sure to stay calm and do your best to de-escalate the situation. Always seek support when you need it.

The Mandt System can be a very effective tool for teachers who are supporting students exhibiting disruptive behaviors. There will be a November training available in Havre, MT - contact us for more details!
