Workshop 206
TITLE:
Teaching Science (and Engineering): Boost Your Confidence! for Grades K-5
DESCRIPTION:
This two day course will delve deeply into the science and engineering subject matter addressed by the Montana Science Content Standards (NGSS) for grades K-5 to help teachers gain confidence in teaching science and integrating science and engineering into other subject areas. Focus will be more on content than pedagogy, but we will also address best practices for teaching science in K-5, as well.
Participants will:
gain confidence in the science and engineering content addressed at their grade level K-5.
explore how science and engineering content spirals and builds from K-5 and beyond to better understand an individual teacher’s role in students’ science education.
practice melding content (DCIs) with the other dimensions of our science standards --Science and Engineering Practices and Crosscutting Concepts (SEPs and CCCs).
use practice tests to better understand how the three dimensional standards will be assessed through the new state science testing.
