March into Literacy Month

Reading is a skill that we all must have, and besides, it’s fun!

What book are you currently reading? Do you talk about books with your students?

According to National Statistics, in 2023, Montana ranked 5th for literacy rates with 86.9%. Literacy in our schools is very important and that is why March is “March into Literacy Month”. Here are some great lessons & activities to utilize in your classroom!

PreK-K: Alphabet, Dough Letter Shapes, Goldfish Alphabet Tracing

K-2: Roll & Read Sight Words, Phoneme Manipulation, Phonics Group Lesson

1-3: Descriptive Language, Write a Tall Tale

2-4: Vocabulary Four Square, Book Character Wanted Poster, Story Summaries

4-6: Paired Passages, Choice Boards, Engage Reading with Mystery Pictures

6-8: Reading Response, What’s the Main Idea?, ReadWorks.org

9-12: First Chapter Friday, Speed Dating, Passion Projects

  • April 24, 2024: Spring Leadership Conference - open to all GTCC Administration (RSVP)

This event is open to all GTCC Administration. We will have Rick Duncan - Powell County & 2023 - 2024 MT Superintendent of the Year speaking on Legislative Advocacy. We will also have a quick August In-Service promotion by Adam Welcome & Kendra Lewis will be sharing on “MonTech/The Rural Institute for Inclusive Communities”.

  • August 7, 2024: Hutterite Colony Educator Conference (RSVP)

This event is open to Hutterite Colony teachers, German teachers, and the administrators who serve the colonies - whether members or not. We will have Mona Shortman as our opening keynote and breakout sessions throughout the day on the topics of Special Education, ELL, multi-grade classrooms, technology integration, etc. 

  • August 14, 2024: New Teacher Institute & Orientation (RSVP)

This event is open to all new teachers to the Golden Triangle. We will review the cooperative & its’ supports for our members, GTCC standards, classroom management, self-care, and integrated movement sessions. This is one of our most popular events, don’t miss it!

  • August 15, 2024: Fall In-Service with Keynote Speaker Adam Welcome (RSVP)

This event is open to all GTCC Member Schools and schools are encouraged to come together as a group for collaborative professional development. We will provide breakfast & lunch. Enjoy an interactive & engaging keynote by Adam; then collaborate with staff during breakout sessions! This event is not to be missed!
